ABOUT THE PROGRAMS

PRIVATE INSTRUCTION – Every lesson is custom tailored to suit the needs of the individual student. The lessons are designed to address all aspects of music, including practical, theoretical, and historical, while building confidence and a solid musical foundation in a safe and supportive environment.

SMALL ENSEMBLE – The small ensemble has been designed to bridge the gap between private lessons and large ensemble. Each small ensemble focuses on learning basic instrumental techniques, section and ensemble skills, and a basic history of music and each instrument. Every member will have the opportunity to perform as an integral part of the ensemble as well as play the role of a soloist in both rehearsal and performance.

LARGE ENSEMBLE – The large ensemble focuses on learning instrumental techniques and section and ensemble skills as well as basic music theory and history through very diverse repertoire in which they have the opportunity to perform in both formal and informal concert settings. Geeta is currently the Conductor for the Long & McQuade Port Coquitlam Wind Ensemble, as well as the Maple Ridge Concert Band (MRCB) Beginner and Intermediate Concert Bands. Check out: the MRCB Intermediate and Mass bands from the 2019 Spring Concert.

CLINICS & WORKSHOPS – Most Clinics & Workshops are typically ages 10 and up and adults are always welcome. Each Clinic & Workshop is designed to isolate and address different aspects of either musical or instrumental techniques. Please visit UPCOMING EVENTS to find out about specific upcoming Clinics & Workshops.

CAMPS – Most Camps are typically ages 10 and up, adults always welcome. All Camps are geared more toward small and large wind ensembles with percussion. Each Camp will help students to improve both their ensemble skills and individual instrumental techniques in a fun and supportive environment. Please visit UPCOMING EVENTS to find out about specific upcoming Camps.

*Please note: As Covid-19 restrictions relax and lift, Private Lessons will shift to both online and in-person, Large and Small Ensembles, and Group Lessons have now resumed in-person.

MORE ABOUT GEETA’S EDUCATION BACKGROUND

Geeta began studying music in her elementary school concert band. After having her instrument stolen following the first band class and sitting in band with no instrument for months, she developed a special appreciation for how precious and important music is in all of our lives. When her instrument was finally replaced she had to work hard and fast to catch up and in doing so she learned how to be extremely efficient and effective in her practice. Both of these experiences have had a huge impact on her motivation and skills as an educator.

Geeta did the majority of her postsecondary studies in Secondary Music Education, Ethnomusicology, and Classical Music Performance at Douglas College and the University of British Columbia. She has also studied privately throughout the eastern United States. She specializes in wind instruments and currently teaches flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, and introductory low brass. She teaches a wide variety of musical styles to students of all ages and levels. Geeta teaches private studio and in-home lessons, small and large wind ensembles, clinics, workshops, and camps, and is the conductor for a beginner and an intermediate community concert band.

Geeta has been teaching for over twenty-five years and is still incredibly excited and enthusiastic about it. This is truly one of her passions.
